It’s not to blame the deceased, but to learn from their actions to prevent another cop being injured or killed. Much like as the armed forces embraced the after-action review in the 1970s, law enforcement is also using it to improve our operations.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">When I was a field trainer (and field training supervisor), a bible for instruction was from the 1970s. Officer Down: Code Three, by Pierce Brooks is still an excellent reference on things that get cops killed. When I was instructing new officers, I would assign them a chapter a night to read, and we would review the points the next day.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">The Las Cruces NM Police Department lost an officer a month ago. The officer approached a suspect who was originally non-hostile. The suspect then pulled out a kitchen knife, charged the officer, and stabbed him to death. The suspect was killed by a civilian with his personal pistol (I thought that never happened) coming to the aide of the officer.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Back to Officer Down: Code Three, the book list ten critical mistakes that get cops killed. Looking at this video, I see three apparent missteps that are covered by the writing: Relaxing too soon; Missing the danger signs, and; Failure to watch their hands.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Looking at the video, the first thing to notice is how quickly the suspect jumps up as the officer approaches. The suspect has taken himself from a tactically weak position (on the ground with legs crossed) to a much stronger one (standing, able to run or engage). The implication is the suspect sees the officer as a threat and he is preparing to react. A definite danger sign missed.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Next, the suspect begins talking to the cop, seemingly in a friendly way. In a way that implies “I’m not a danger to you.” We can only assume the officer did not see him as the threat he was.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">The officer continues to approach with his hands in his jacket pocket. He doesn’t see the suspect as a threat and has relaxed to a point. But as you see the suspect quickly starts to move towards the officer and pulls the knife out. The officer doesn’t have the time to react, specifically pull his pistol out and fire.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Yes YouTube use of force and police tactics experts, a kitchen knife is a deadly weapon. Don’t believe that? Shove one between a couple ribs and tell me how that feels.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Reviewing the video, another critical point. As the cop approaches, the suspect has his arms crossed so the officer cannot see his hands. Something drilled into cops in every instruction, hands are what kills you. They are what strike you directly or handle the weapons that do injury or kill you.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">This video shows how the “21 Foot Rule” is applicable in law enforcement. Again, from the 1970s, it shows how quickly a man with a knife can charge and injure a cop with a gun before the cop can get his pistol out. There is a reason we train officers to approach with the pistol side back, hand on the weapon and the holster unlocked. It gives the officer the chance pull his weapon a bit faster, when a fraction of a second matters.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">To emphasis again, I am in no way ridiculing an officer (RIP). I am showing the lessons to be learned on the last call he took, and hopefully this will keep other cops from suffering a similar result.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">

Mike Thiachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02929567856363413549noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4616738492034982606.post-58173467513553763082024-02-14T22:45:00.003-06:002024-02-14T22:45:18.017-06:00Another example of deafening silence. <p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Gregory (Scotland Yard detective): Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">Holmes: To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">Gregory: The dog did nothing in the night-time.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">Holmes: That was the curious incident.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">Sherlock Holmes and Inspector Gregory, Silver Blaze, by Sir Author Conan Doyle.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">On Sunday February 11th, I was driving home from work around 200pm and noticed two Harris County Sheriff’s Office shops (also known as patrol cars) “running hot,” i.e.,lights, sirens, etc. I didn’t pay it much attention, it’s a not uncommon event in Houston TX.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">A minute later I noticed a third car running hot. Then a fourth. I assumed it was serious, like a unit “dropping an assist.” The call “Assist the Officer” means an officer is in danger and requires immediate backup. That was an understatement.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">An active shooter call dropped at Joel Osteen’s mega-church, Lakewood. The attack occurred just as they were starting Spanish service, and the shooter was armed with a “rifle.” Fortunately two cops working off duty security at the church immediately engaged and terminated the suspect.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">During the Super Bowl I checked on updates to the shooting and the POS was described as a “transgender female” using a “rifle” for the attack, with a 4–5-year-old child. In speaking with an officer on the scene, the POS (I will not mention its name, for multiple reasons, more to come) was using the child as a human shield. Unfortunately, the boy (the POS’s child) was hit and is in critical condition. However, thanks to the quick work of the two cops on the scene, the POS only shot one man in the leg and he should make a full recovery.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;">Again, I find it curious that a mass shooting, in Texas, by a shooting using an “assault rifle” has not made a bigger splash in the news. Great long weekend in Bean Town, and I’ve recovered from my concussion on the ship. Be carful on that ship as men were shorter when she first sailed and the ceiling, and the cross members sporting them, were low.

I know the Navy works to manage the wear and tear on the Constitution. They sail it once a year, and rotate which side is docked to even out sun and water wear. I heard the Navy had a small forest of white oak to handle the ships repairs and maintenance. Here is the story oh how that came about.

Where does a 225-year-old working warship get its parts? At the Navy forest, of course

A forest owned by the U.S. Navy in Indiana ensures that the U.S.S. Constitution—named by George Washington and built with bolts forged by Paul Revere—stays afloat and at the ready.

In the early 1970s, as the United States began preparing for its Bicentennial, Boston decided that the U.S.S. Constitution would be a focal point of the city’s anniversary celebrations, with a new museum to the celebrated warship opening at the Charlestown Navy Yard.

The three-masted heavy frigate, launched in 1797, was named by George Washington and built with copper bolts forged by Paul Revere. Black-sided and red-bottomed, with a single, stark white running stripe, Constitution protected American ships against the French in the undeclared Quasi-War of 1798-1800 and quelled pirate attacks in the Mediterranean during the First Barbary War. The armed vessel defeated five British warships in the War of 1812, and it was in the wake of one of those battles—in which the American crew watched enemy cannonballs bounce harmlessly off Constitution’s white-oak hull—that the warship earned its famous nickname: “Old Ironsides...”

...The Constitution fulfilled its last mission, seizing a slave ship near the Congo River, in 1853 but remains today a fully commissioned warship of the U.S. Navy and—225 years after its launching— the oldest warship still afloat anywhere on Earth, moored in Boston Harbor’s chilly waters.

In 1906, after decades of work as a training ship along the east coast, the Navy made its first attempt to restore Constitution to its original War of 1812 configuration. In order to maintain the ship’s seaworthiness, a near-full restoration would need to be undertaken every 10 years.

But when the Navy went looking for materials to repair Constitution ahead of the 1976 Bicentennial, the enormous white oaks needed for the restoration of Old Ironsides were hard to find in the Northeast, so supervisors at the Boston Naval Shipyard scoured the Midwest and eventually bought timber from a private seller in Ohio.

“Someone in the Navy caught wind of it and wondered why they didn’t just come another four or five hours west, where they had fantastic white oak right on Navy property that they could have gotten for free,” recalls Trent Osmon, the environmental manager at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Crane, a Navy installation 35 miles southwest of Bloomington, Indiana.

That pricey decision prompted the Navy in 1976 to begin harvesting white oak for the U.S.S. Constitution at NSA Crane. To celebrate the occasion, they established Constitution Grove, a ceremonial 40-acre dedicated section of forest on the sprawling base where much of the timber that keeps the formidable warship afloat is harvested. Today, NSA Crane is the only forest in the U.S. managed by the Navy to support its fleet...

...In one corner of NSA Crane’s expanse of white oak trees is the 40-acre area known as Constitution Grove. The white oak trees are tall and slender, with branches that start high in the trunk, culminating in a canopy that blocks most sunlight from reaching the ground.

This part of the forest was originally selected by the Navy due to its high concentration of high-quality white oak. And while Osmon and his crew harvest trees from across the Navy base for use on Constitution, most of it is tagged and felled right in Constitution Grove...

...After felling what it needs for Constitution’s upkeep, the Navy sells the rest of its harvest to private furniture and piano makers, and, thanks to tylosis—the unique cell structure that makes white oak waterproof—bourbon cask-making for distillers just a short drive south in Kentucky’s famed bourbon country...

...Maintenance of a 225-year-old, 304-foot-long wooden warship is a constant job, and in the 50-odd years that Constitution Grove has supplied timbers for the maintenance of Constitution, Osmon estimates that 114 white oaks have been felled for the two most recent dry-dock restorations of Old Ironsides.

...In a dry-dock restoration, Constitution is lifted out of the water for examination and repairs of its wooden hull below the waterline under the watchful eye of Robert Murphy, the production manager at Naval History and Heritage Command, Detachment Boston. Then the copper sheathing that protects the submerged section of vessel is removed, allowing Murphy’s team to more closely study the normally submerged section of the hull, looking for sections to repair and potentially replace. Armed with that knowledge, and knowing exactly how much wood Constitution will need, Murphy’s team contacts Osmon with an order for how many trees to fell for restoration of the storied warship...

...In felling trees for Old Ironside’s hull planks, Osmon’s forestry team seeks out mature trees anywhere from 110 to 125 years old and 120-130 feet tall, which are then loaded on commercial trucks and taken to New England. There, the ship’s caretakers mill the enormous white oaks into hull planks that stretch up to 40 feet long, with leftover pieces repurposed for more ornamental flourishes around the ship, such as handrails and trim...

My best friend passed on a few years back. An interesting concept put forth by commentator Mark Levin in his book The Liberty Amendments is to sunset every federal agency every five years. These departments and agencies would have them justify their existence and organization to the Congress at regular a regular interval.

Too much you think? Well, in the lead up to New Year's 2000, we spent a fortune on preparing for the end of days because of software issues in computers. The world did not end on 1/1/00, but the federal department that oversaw Y2K prep until 2017.

I found this article interesting about the Supreme Court reviewing the power of federal agencies to interpret federal law. A major issue with the bureaucracy is they can put out regulations with the power of law, but there is little or no legislative oversight, and if you get called inot a labor court or other hearing, you are guilty until you prove your innocence (slight exaggeration).

From today's Washington Post:

Supreme Court divided over whether to curb the power of federal agencies

Ann E. God where did forty years go? As we are getting older, we are contemplating where to retire to, and occasionally going back to our hometown of New Orleans comes up. The three F’s, family, friends, and food are mighty attractive.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Then we spend time back in the New Orleans area. While the attractions are still there, we know we will not retire in Louisiana. And that is a shame. There are great places to eat, the New Orleans zoo and aquarium are incredible, and if you have not seen the World War II Museum, do so, and do it now. A lot of the vets are hanging out over there, and the fact is they are passing on every day.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">But the crime, corruption, and politics are too much. The New Orleans Police Department is over tasked and undermanned, the local “leaders” are worthless, and crime is out of control. For a city of 390K, it’s already had 166 murders, and it might be a reason to celebrate. For instance, an experience patrol officer sees a convicted drug dealer on the sidewalk. He observes an apparent sale to a second person, so he stops the suspect and starts to talk to him. In accordance with Terry v. Ohio, the officer conducts a quick pat down and feels the outline of a gun or knife. He then had reasonable suspicion to reach into the pocket where he discovers the 9mm he was carrying.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">As the man is a convicted drug dealer, he cannot carry a firearm. The officer places him under arrest and he’s sent back to jail or state prison. What is not shown is the drug dealer was going to use that later on a drive by shooting. While he’s being processed, the other gang banger dodges being shot (for today).
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">I thought of this after reading this article on two Los Angeles police officers and what they have endured since a shooting in 2018. They were called for a disturbance in a gym locker room, where the suspect refused to leave and had assaulted a security officer.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">“After engaging the suspect, who was naked and much larger than both officers, the suspect refused to leave and resisted attempts to take him into custody. However, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeal stripped the officers of qualified immunity, leaving them open to personal financial liability in civil suits over the shooting.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">After several months of an appeal, the 9th Circuit reversed, restoring the qualified immunity for the officer who fired the shots. “The court stated the officers were under a ‘high-stress, rapidly developing situation with a suspect, much larger than both officers, in a confined space. Moreover, use of an intermediate weapon, the TASER, did not bring the man under control.’”
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Now I have no doubt the city will settle with the criminal’s family as soon as possible. But the question is would Los Angeles have stood behind the officers in civil litigation if they were not force to? Forgive me if I say, “I doubt it.”
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">The action of the officers here is within applicable law, and I’ll assume department policy. But the departments and cities are not interested in justice. They want to cover their…liability.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">A classic example is from the 1980s, where a Mid-West city police department (like most major cities in the 1980s) was transitioning from revolvers to semi-automatics. The academy trained the officers if a jam occurred during a firefight, you should “CLEAR! (clear the jam), RACK! (load a round in the chamber) and SHOOT!” Later an officer has a jam in a firefight and does exactly that, “CLEAR! RACK! SHOOT!” However, while the officer was handing his pistol the suspect dropped his and was not a deadly threat anymore. He died from being shot.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">During the lawsuit for the suspect’s death, the city attempted to sever liability, saying the officer should have reassessed before shooting. Fortunately for the officer, his training records were produced to show that was the city trained their officers to do, and they were liable.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Current example, a major city just revised its pursuit policy. Speaking with a sergeant on the force, he was very plain on the matter. “They are putting all the liability on the street supervisor. I’ll say it. Unless the suspect driving away is a murder suspect, I’m cancelling the pursuit.” Trust me, he’s not the only sergeant thinking that, and the criminals know it. So they will simply drive off, betting their will not be pursued.
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">
<p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; margin: 0in 0.5in 0in 0in; text-align: justify;">Between the feds coming down at every possible chance, cities not backing their officers, and departments higher ranks being staffed with politicians, not cops, officers will not stick their neck out. Not physically (see the LAPD example above) or legally/financially. And to borrow the phrase, “women, children and minorities hardest hit.”
Mike Thiachttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02929567856363413549noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4616738492034982606.post-44998451005398911342023-07-19T17:10:00.000-05:002023-07-19T17:10:17.637-05:00How the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) looks at night...
Not to be confused with the People's Democratic Republic of Kalifornia (PDRK)

Ages ago I read Dick Cheney's autobiography, In My Time. One of the points I remember was he put in his office, when he was the Secretary of Defense, a picture of the Korean Peninsula at night. Everything below the DMZ was fully lit, especially around Seoul. North of the border, with some exceptions (Pyongyang), was completely dark.

I subscribe to 38th North, a daily summary of unclassified intelligence on the DPRK. Yes, once an intel nerd. always an intel nerd. But I've been studying this country since 1988 (when I got my first assignment out of my Army basic course), and while countless Asian nations have entered the 21st Century, it is still in the years before the mid-20th Century. And this latest photo shows it.

I've read a bio of Lyndon Johnson and how he was instrumental in getting electric power to Texas Hill Country people. No. It just had electric light for the first time.

Somewhere in my office is a picture of me in the summer of 1989 on the DMZ. Why they would do that, I don't know, but knowing Lloyd Austin et all will trade a fortune for him. I was about 200 yards from the border, and that was close enough.

See the future liberals want for all of use (well, not them you understand...). I've often said I'm an not an "environmentalist," as they are radical anti-growth and frankly anti human development people, many of whom want to spare themselves of the pain they push on others. Just recently John Kerry, hypocrite extraordinaire, was actually called out on his use of his private jet to go to one conference after another demanding we stop using internal combustion engines. Like the one in "his" plane and the limo he always rides in.

In fairness, it was not his plane. It was his wife's.

I prefer the term conservationist. I believe the Earth's natural resources should be efficiently exploited for the benefit of mankind. That include oil, natural gas, coal, water, and air. Keep the air and water clean, absolutely. Stop using things that work (e.g. automobiles, aircraft, etc) while the hypocrites lecture us from their 200' yachts? I don't think so.

One point made countless times is there is a source of electricity the leaves no "greenhouse" gases, but many of the enviro nut-jobs want no part of is nuclear power. Legitimately there is an issue of where to store the radioactive waste, but that should have been settled ages ago. Yucca Mountain in Nevada has been designated as a national storage site since 1997, and it's still an open issue after resistance from local politicians. Hopefully a Republican president in 2025 will use eminent domaine to seize the land, establish the final site and name it after a man who's deserved this honor. Let's call it the Harry Reid Toxic Waste dump.

But I found this interesting. The Army is working on portable nuclear generators to deploy to the field. Generally a useless buerocrat who serves no constructive purpose. As any bureaucracy grows, it generally gets filled with more and more of them. The Department of Defense is an excellent example of one.

Two years ago the Navy put out an instructional video on how to use pronouns and create "safe spaces." I beg to differ, when a schizophrenic is listening to a couple of dozen voices in his head, the 23 year old sociology major getting a job on the subway will not break through all the noise in his head. I know, I've had to handle them, and it's no fun.

Back to Mr. Penny, once I heard he was going to be charged, I immediately donated 100 dollars to his legal defense fund. Looks like I was not alone, it's over 2.9 million. But it looks like New Yorkers are afraid to intercede when people need help from criminals or people in crisis. In May my wife Beth and I flew to Seattle for an Alaskan cruise.After settling in, we went to dinner and I wanted to take the subway. Mistake.

Once we started moving a homeless male got into Beth's face and demanded, "You got money!" I didn't intervene immediately, I know that may make him worse. But I did get into a crouch position and oriented on his mid-body. If he got any more aggressive, I would take action.

Fortunately, he walked off, made the same demand of every other rider on the car, then started smashing his arms against the door, But a disturbing thing is I was thinking I would be the next Daniel Penny. I really had thoughts of a liberal DA in Seattle charging me with assault of a homeless dude who threatened my wife and others. Have no clue what criminal record this dude has, but I'll lay money it violent. He doesn't know better.

Suffice to say we never took public transportation again while we were there. But this is what happens when you allow leftist intent on destroying society to have power. God help Mr. Penny. And God help the John and Jane Q. Enjoy.

Deleted ‘Space Seed’ Scene Wows ‘Trek’ Fans

The deleted scene, which popped up on YouTube in 2020, takes place in the briefing room aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban) and a group of his followers have seized control of the ship, with at least four of them brandishing phasers. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Lt. Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) and Scotty (James Doohan) are seated in chairs, as Khan stands in front of them, addressing the group. Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) is standing to Khan’s right. The camera then pushes in tight on McCoy as he approaches Khan and the doctor testily says, “I never thought I’d say this to a patient, but you owe me something. In case you’ve forgotten, I saved your life!” McCoy grabs at Khan’s arm and is immediately hit with phaser fire by one of Khan’s group. The doctor falls to the ground, as Uhura reaches out to help him. As the scene went unused in “Space Seed,” it was never completed. Thus, there are no special effects (for the phaser fire), nor is there any music to complement and enhance the action.

The scene continues with a quick cut to Spock, who is now standing, and Khan, who explains to the Vulcan that McCoy is only stunned and that he will avoid bloodshed…if possible.
