October 7, Associated Press – (National) FBI program to boost security at bases. Nearly a year after a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, the Pentagon is taking new steps to beef up security and surveillance programs at its bases, and will join an FBI intelligence-sharing program aimed at identifying future terror threats, U.S. officials said. The new partnership with the FBI’s eGuardian program comes 2 years after the Pentagon shut down a controversial anti-terror database that collected reports of suspicious activity near military installations. The now-defunct program, called TALON, was closed after revelations it had improperly stored information on peace activists. Defense officials have moved carefully to set up the new programs, trying to balance the protection of the nation’s armed forces with the privacy and civil rights of Americans.

Poland: U.S. Patriot Missile Battery To Be Stationed In Morag, Then Torun October 13, 2010
The next U.S. Patriot missile battery to arrive in Poland will be first stationed in the city of Morag before being deployed to Torun, PAP reported Oct. 13, citing a Polish Defense Ministry spokesman. However, this does not preclude the possibility that future U.S. batteries will be deployed to other Polish army bases, the spokesman said. The next battery will arrive in Poland in November, the spokesman added.

Iran: Another 100 Russian Workers Sent To Bushehr October 13, 2010
Dispelling rumors that some Russian employees are leaving, Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant project manager, Mahmoud Jafari, said the facility is set to receive an additional 100 Russian personnel, ISNA reported Oct. 13. There are now 2,500 Russian employees working at Bushehr, Jafari added.
Iran: Blast Kills Several IRGC Members October 12, 2010
An explosion has killed several members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) at a military base in western Iran, Fars News Agency reported Oct. 12. Several others were injured and taken to hospitals in Khoramabad. The Mashreghnews.ir website was the only news outlet to give an exact toll, reporting that 12 IRGC guards and been killed and 20 injured. The explosion likely occurred at an armaments warehouse.
U.S.: Allegedly Sending Opposition Forces To Iran October 12, 2010
According to Kalameh News on Oct. 12, U.S. forces have recently chosen 75 agents of the Mujahideen-e-Khalq (MeK) with the intention of sending them to Iran under the guise of Iraqi nationals after they finish special training courses. The agents would travel and work through legal means and with official documents to contact security, military and police forces and collect information on the missile and nuclear industries of the country. According to another report, 29 MeK militants have been recently transferred to Azerbaijan by U.S. forces and are currently deployed in that country.

Mexico: Drug Cartel Financier Arrested October 13, 2010
Mexican federal police arrested the principal financier for Mexican drug trafficking cartel La Familia Michoacana, Ignacio Javier Lopez Medina, in an unspecified location in Michoacan, Milenio reported Oct. 13. Lopez Medina was arrested along with three other people, including a bank executive from Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan state, El Universal reported. Lopez Medina confessed to handling funds obtained from extortion, kidnapping and drug trafficking.
Mexico: Investigator Into Falcon Lake Attack Killed October 12, 2010
A Mexican police commander tasked with investigating the reported pirate attack on Falcon Lake was killed and his head delivered to the Mexican military, sources said Oct. 12, San Antonio Express-News reported. Rolando Flores was the chief of state investigators in Ciudad Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas state. U.S. officials said the head was reportedly delivered in a suitcase in the vicinity of Ciudad Miguel Aleman.
Mexico: Governors, President Sign Pact On Unified Police October 12, 2010
Nine Mexican state governors signed a security agreement to create the first unified command state police units within six months, Milenio reported Oct. 12. The governors of Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Sinaloa, Oaxaca and Hidalgo signed the agreement. The governor of Puebla state also agreed to the pact but did not attend.
