This is why you handcuff people.....

This is scary....the officer was booking this turd and while his back was turned he went nuts.  I would say I guess he didn't think he was in a jail and this ain't a movie, but turds like him generally don't think.



Thankfully the officer got the upper hand, he's ok and the turd was apparently severely arrested. But the article explains why you always handcuff a suspect.

Elyria officer assaulted at station

ELYRIA — Elyria police officer William Witt was bruised but did not need to go to the hospital after being attacked by a man he was booking into jail Sunday morning, Police Chief Duane Whitely said.

Witt and another officer arrested Anthony Thomas, 29, of Cleveland, at a Middle Avenue apartment around 2:52 a.m. The officers were investigating a domestic situation and arrested Thomas, without incident, on a contempt of court warrant, according to an Elyria police report.

While being taken to the cruiser, Thomas told Witt he would not be cooperating if he were not in handcuffs and said he could sense the “smell of fear” on Witt. However, Thomas remained quiet and cooperative on the way to the Elyria Police Department and while being walked into the booking area.

Witt took Thomas’ handcuffs off and sat down at a computer to confirm Thomas’ address and take a booking photo. When Witt tried to take the photo Thomas lunged over the booking counter and punched Witt several times in the head, the report stated. Witt fought back and realized Thomas was reaching for Witt’s gun, according to the report.

Witt tried to call for assistance, but was unable to do so because his radio microphone had fallen off and he could not reach the phone. He was able to put Thomas in a choke hold until other officers arrived.

Thomas was initially going to be charged with the warrant and taken to the Lorain County jail on $2,000 bond. He was given an additional charge of assaulting a police officer and was arraigned in Elyria Municipal Court yesterday, with bond was set at $150,000...
