Sounds like a great tourist area...let's make a reservation!

I would say something critical about the construction time, but we can't say much now...how long has there been a gaping hole in what used to be the World Trade Center.

North Korea's 'Hotel of Doom' to open 24 years after construction

For more than two decades, an unfinished pyramid-shaped tower dubbed the "Hotel of Doom" has marked Pyongyang's skyline.

Now, 24 years after it was first started, the hotel which once aimed to be the world's tallest tower will finally open its doors in the North Korean capital.

Ryugyong Hotel, a glass tower spanning 105 storeys and rising 1,080ft high, will partially open in April next year following decades of delays, according to reports.

The long-delayed opening will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the nation's founder Kim Il-sung, with celebrations peaking on 15 April.

It was in 1987 that the hotel – whose name means Capital of Willows – was first launched with the grandiose ambitions of creating the world's tallest tower.

However, construction ground to a halt in 1993, due to lack of funds following the collapse of the Soviet Union, economic mismanagement and natural disasters.

Now Pyongyang has many buildings that are decent looking from outside but inside there is nothing. They are facades. People who go there will report you have 8 lane wide streets in the city with a guard directing traffic. Every ten to twenty minute there is a car at the intersection but the guard keeps going through the routine "Stop...Go...Stop...Go"

An appropriate commemoration for the father of the People's Republic. Stunning from the outside, nothing inside except for a few party officials. Even better is this picture:

The Korean Peninsula at night...notice the lack of light north
of the border.
