Cuba: 500,000 State Workers To Be Fired By Mid-2011 September 13, 2010
The Cuban government said its new employment policy calls for the removal of 500,000 workers in the state sector by mid-2011, Spain’s ABC reported Sept. 13. Given the large scale, layoffs will begin immediately and be a gradual process. The Cuban government also said it expects to see a parallel increase in non-government sector employment through new employment options such as leasing opportunities, cooperatives and self-employment.
