Egypt: Israel Deploys Surveillance Aircraft To Border September 8, 2011
The Israeli air force deployed a unit of unmanned surveillance aircraft along Israel’s border with Egypt in response to the killing of eight Israelis by Egyptian militants in August, an unnamed senior Israeli military official said Sept. 8, AP reported. The official said the aircraft are monitoring the 250-kilometer (150-mile) border from Israeli airspace.

The Egyptian Navy arrested seven employees of an Israeli private security firm on a yacht near the Straits of Tiran in the Red Sea, Haaretz reported Sept. 9. An Egyptian naval patrol became suspicious of the yacht after the four security officials and three crew members threw their personal weapons overboard, causing the Egyptians to board and arrest the ship’s crew on suspicion of harboring militants. The Israelis were interrogated in the Egyptian Sinai port of Sharm el-Sheikh where the Israeli and Egyptian foreign ministries began communicating to clarify the misunderstanding. Released early Sept. 8, the detainees were all employees of an Israeli security firm specializing in commercial shipping security services in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
Turkey: NATO Radar System Not Directed Against Any Country September 9, 2011
The NATO radar system that will be deployed in Turkish territory is not directed against any country, a Turkish Foreign Ministry official said Sept. 9, Trend reported, citing Milliyet. The deployment is meant to improve the level of NATO’s missile defense, the official added. The statement is in response to Iran’s reaction to the radar placement in Turkey.
