Real courage under oppression

I have little tolerance for the morons who infest Hollywood and their political views. Mainly it's because they are often leftists with no clue of the real world. But also their inflated view of themselves and their craft. They really think they are being couragous by standing up for what ever the crusade of the week (Global Cooling, Global Warming, oh yea, Climate Change, Animal Rights, Occupy Wherever, Against Gulf War One, Gulf War Two, Afghan War, War on Terrorism, Children's Rights, Animal Rights, whatever the hell else comes up) in a safe country, surrounded by the best life has to offer, security and ass kissers.

Now here is an example of real courage by an artist. But I doubt someone will be making a movie about her.

Iran actress sentenced to one year in jail: report

Actress Marzieh Vafamehr has been sentenced to a year in jail and 90 lashes for her role in a film about the limits imposed on artists in the Islamic republic, an Iranian opposition website reported Sunday.

"A verdict has been issued for Marzieh Vafamehr, sentencing her to a year in jail and 90 lashes," Kalameh.com reported.

"Her lawyer has appealed the sentence, which was handed down yesterday (Saturday)," the report added, without giving further details.

Vafamehr was arrested in July after appearing in "My Tehran for Sale," which came under harsh criticism in conservative circles.

The film, produced in collaboration with Australia, tells the story of a young actress in Tehran whose theatre work is banned by the authorities. She is then forced to lead a secret life in order to express herself artistically.

The Fars news agency said the movie had not been approved for screening in Iran and was being distributed in the country illegally.

Having to submit a movie for approval to the government before distribution and sending it out under cover. Sounds pretty oppressive to me. I wonder if Sean Penn will be flying over to Tehran to protest that? Or will Mikey Moore bring his fat ass over to Iran and show the Mullahs they can't do this? Can I wait for Jane Fonda to get over there and stand with Ms Vafamehr as the usual suspect are hauling her off to jail for punishment? I think we know the answers to these questions.

One of the movies I have listed as a favorite under my profile is The Lives of Others, showing how East Germany was organized during the height of the Cold War. I was stuck by the fact typewriters were registered items and only five types could be sold in the country. Being found with an unlicensed one could bring prison or worse. Yet really courageous people put out the facts of life in the country and the world. People in Hollyweird would be more believable when they act like Ms Vafamehr than Jane Fonda.
