A great quote

I was recently promoted to Sergeant and last week got off the field training program.

Saturday was a fun one, as they normally are. Things start going crazy as soon as the sun goes down and we're going from one call to another. During this run of run crisis to another, the station desk officer called for a Spanish speaking officer to come by and assist her. A woman had come by to report an accident and needed assistance. All of our officers (bilingual and otherwise) we're tied up, so we told the woman she would have to wait.

After one crisis after another, we get back to the station a hour past off duty time and the new desk officer mentioned "A woman called to complain she came here to report an accident and she had to wait four hours for a Spanish speaking officer, so she just left…." Before I could say it, one of my other supervisors answered her "Well, she needs to learn English so she doesn't have these problems…"

Yes, America's language is English. You want to visit for a while, it's understandable if you don't know the language. But if you are going to stay here, learn it. It precludes many of the issues we have today. Then again, the usual suspects like The Race and LULAC wouldn't like that. They make money off it and it's more power.
