Cops: Drunk driver hits DUI squad
Arizona woman arrested after smashing into side of deputy's vehicle
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (KPHO) —Sheriff's deputies with Pinal County's DUI Task Force didn't have to go far to arrest one suspected drunken driver.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office said a sheriff's K-9 deputy was stopped on Peart Road in Casa Grande to help with an arrest Sunday night when a 22-year-old woman slammed into the side of his vehicle.
Amanda Leyvas drove into the front passenger side as the deputy was about to get out of the car, and just missed hitting two other squad vehicles and two deputies, police said.
Leyvas and her passenger, Terry Sigarroba, were both believed to be drunk, according to police.
Neither was hurt in the crash.
Leyvas was arrested on charges of driving while impaired by alcohol, aggravated assault and criminal damage, while Sigarroba was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of the Casa Grande City Court for interfering with a judicial proceeding.
The deputy was taken to Casa Grande Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.
His K-9 was taken to a veterinary clinic as a precaution.
Good to hear of deputy's and the dog were ok…if she needs her ass stitched.no biggie. Call be a bit cynical, but I have no tolerance for DWIs.
