I guess the answer is yes.
During the Monday 12PM ET hour of live coverage on MSNBC, anchor Contessa Brewer described the "firestorm" over a newly passed immigration law in Arizona and fretted: "does this lead to a situation where neighbors are turning in neighbors or families turning against families?" Later in the segment, a headline on screen read: "Law Makes it a Crime to be Illegal Immigrant."
Brewer discussed the issue with Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and wondered: "Is this an effective way to deal with the problem?" In response, Sanchez declared: "to stop people and say, 'I think you look like an illegal immigrant' and then drag them off to jail is not the way to deal with this issue."
Brewer followed up by quoting current Homeland Security Secretary and former Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano: "she would veto these kinds of bills because she said – she thought it was important for police to be doing actual police work, that they are not immigration enforcement officers." As Brewer made that argument, the headline "Law Makes it a Crime to be Illegal Immigrant" flashed on screen.
OK what next is a crime…murder?...robbery?
I think that if the federal govn't would uphold the laws of this county then no state such as Az. would have to pass this type of law in the 1st place. Az. is basically saying they've had enough!! I agree!! And besides, a police officer has the right to ask anybody to ID themselves so what's another piece of paper to carry around. I'll carry it and proudly produce it when ask by an officer. This is "my" country and I am so sick of this BS.

Last time I heard, it was a crime to be an illegal immigrant even before Arizona took this step. If INS were doing their job, AZ wouldn't have to. So,the obvious answer to your question is yes, the media is indeed that stupid.

- and the law says "it's against the law for you to be in this country illegally".
- then if a cop drags your happy buttocks off for being in this country illegally, then they (the cops) are doing "actual police work".
Like Lisa - I'm tired of the BS. Arizona is paying the price for the Feds not securing the border, and, they've had their fill. They are the ones who're victims of the crime and the drain on local resources. Hence the state law. Politicians are a crafy sort - like rats. They aren't going to do anything that's against the will of the majority of the voting public. This law is in place for a multiple of reasons.

I think we all synch on this…what really annoys me is the admin of B Hussein Obama will probably challenge this is court. And we know there is a judge who will say “You can’t do this….because I say so…”

HEADLINES IN HOUSTON CHRONICLE LAST WEEK READ, "ILLIGALS PROTEST ARIZONA'S NEW BILL", AND THEY HAVE A PICTURE OF A FEMALE PROTESTER WITH A SIGN AND HER FACE STUCK THROUGH THE MIDDLE WITH ARROWS POINTING TO HERSELF AND THE SIGN READS, "I'M ILEGAL". WHAT.....SHE'S ILLEGAL AND ALLITERATE!!! OUR SCHOOLS ARE SO BUSY TRYING TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN ENGLISH, THEY CAN'T EVEN GET TO THEIR SPELLING LESSONS!

Did you hear San Francisco and Washington DC, two non-functioning city governments if there ever were, have directed no city business with AZ or AZ businesses. They can’t pass a budget, run their schools, police or fire departments, keep people from running from the cities but they can in a minute say “You got to let the illegal aliens stay in your state…”
