I have not paid much attention to the Casey Anthony case because I think justice should be meticulous, thoughtful and just. And justice cannot be served in front of a camera where the actors in the case are acting like actors.
Soon after the reading of the verdict I received multiple messages expressing shock. I can't determine if she was guilty or innocent...only Ms Anthony knows that for sure. And the prosecution had a tough case to prove with no witness or real physical evidence.
This case brought me back to a case in Australia from 1980. A long time before there was OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson or Casey Anthony there was Lindy Chamberlain. In summary her two month old daughter was taken by a dingo, a wild dog while on a family camping trip. She was later convicted for the girl's murder on flimsy evidence, a conviction that was overturned when a jacket the police said did not exist was found near a dingo lair.
One of the interesting points of the case was the family didn't appear to be upset by the loss of their daughter. They explained their lack of emotion to their faith, Seventh Day Adventist, where they had great belief this was God's will. This didn't make her a popular figure to the Australian people as she was brought to trial. The subsequent proof of her story (or more accurately the crumbling of the prosecution case) has not changed the minds of many of her guilt.
If you want a good look at the case and how the public changed from sympathetic to hostile to Ms Chamberlain you can check out A Cry in the Dark with Meryl Streep.
Again justice cannot be served under a television camera...people don't act normally when they question under their head, "How should I act/behave/think with everyone watching me?". If ever there was a show trial this was it.
So was justice done today in Florida? I'll just say the defendant had her day in court and the prosecution did the best it could with what it had. And if Ms Anthony is guilty she will eventually face a final judge who will be certain of what happened...and He will have His vengeance.
God bless little Caylee, the only truly innocents person in this disaster.
