IMPD misfires with email including bra sizes, weights

Message containing women's measurements for bulletproof vests sent to department commanders

A metropolitan police commander issued a personal apology to 13 female officers after their bra size, height and weight were included in a departmental email this week.

"We made a mistake," Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Valerie Cunningham said. "We want to hold ourselves to the highest professional standards. The measurements should not have been included."

The email was sent Tuesday to 37 commanders and was intended to tell supervisors to inform their officers that their new protective vests were ready to be picked up.

Attached to the email, however, was a spreadsheet listing the names and sizes of 91 officers, including the chest and waist sizes for 13 women whose vests needed special tailoring, Cunningham said.

Yes, this should not have happened but there is no major offense here. Sorry, it tells someone who got the email what bra size a female officer has...it's not too difficult to guess. Yes, spank the person who made the mistake in sending that out but let's not pole vault over a tick turd...well I think we don't have to worry about that.
The police union was exploring a possible grievance or legal action after several of the female officers said they were upset, said William R. Owensby, Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police president.

"I understand the anger and embarrassment," Owensby said. "It's just one of those unfortunate things where it occurred, and it can't be taken back."...

...The message initially was sent by Lt. Dale True to his supervisor Maj. Joe Finch. From there, it went to the 37 members of IMPD's command staff. Both had been counseled, and neither will face formal discipline, said Cunningham, who commands IMPD's Professional Standards Division.

"This was a mistake," Cunningham said. "There won't be any further investigation."...
Again there was a mistake, they took actions to stop the email but it was out and took action to assist any woman who may have issues. No female on the force has called the deputy chief yet. So hopefully the union takes the hint and lets this die.
