Emanuel: City Desperately Needs Cash From Casino
CHICAGO (CBS) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he and Gov. Pat Quinn should be able to work out their differences over legislation that would clear the way for a casino in Chicago, among other places.
As WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports, the mayor says the funds that would be generated from the casino are desperately needed.
“This is an investment we need to make in our own city’s future. We have an opportunity now with the Chicago casino, which the city of Chicago residents favor,” Emanuel said, “and I told you, I wasn’t like an enthusiast about it, but I cannot continue to have Hammond, Indiana, get $20 million a month while our infrastructure is crumbling.”
I'm from Louisiana and thanks to Edwin Edwards we have multiple casino's in the state...and we have the money for great schools, roads, etc. In all seriousness a few years ago the Texas legislature was considering allowing gambling (or should I say casino gambling) in the state and a local radio talk show was discussing the issue. One of the women there was saying how "you can go to the casino's in Louisiana and see all those Texas license plate...let's bring the money they are spending back here for our roads...." I tried to get in and make the point you think a politician will actually spend the money like he says.
Thankfully gambling has stayed on the other side of the Sabine River.
He said the Chicago casino could be brought about “in a good way, and everybody is for that, and we will work it out, because it’s not an either-or choice.”

Not to mention has anyone asked the simple question in regards to Chicago's infrastructure. "What has happened to the money we have already allocated for our roads, bridges, etc"
