I didn't see the first two hours of MTV, but I did see the video that started it, Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles. Followed quickly by one of my favorite rockers, Pat Benatar with You Better Run. I read in her book Between a Rock and Heart Place they filmed the video in a warehouse on the New York docks. She said how everything was going wrong (technical problems, it was hot and humid, etc.) and that was part of the reason she had a stern look on her face. And they had no idea what a "music video" was. Thankfully she learned.
Unfortunately an unknown idiot changed an awesome channel into another reality TV hellhole. But for years, it was an incredible distraction. So for a long week, here is the first two hours of MTV back when it was great. Enjoy, have a great weekend, and Happy Thanksgiving.
