A good look at the Republican nomination right now

An overall excellent article on the lack of support Romney has in the Republican Party in spite of, or more like it because of, the effort of the usual suspects (Republican establishmet, media, etc) to make him the inevitable nominee, before a single vote is cast.

Worth the read bit I found this interesting:
...In that event, Romney’s high name recognition and his organizational muscle could power him through the early presidential states and into bigger, more expensive primary contests before a single anti-Romney candidate has the chance to emerge.

But that’s less a strategy for bringing around the Republican Party than for marginalizing Romney’s opponents and minimizing the damage they can do to him.

“Right now, Romney is the one who has shown the staying power, both in terms of organization and finance,” said Ohio GOP Chairman Kevin DeWine. “It’s advantage Romney because of organization and infrastructure.”

Dan Schnur, a former adviser to John McCain’s 2000 campaign, said that Romney’s political assets still left him as “the weakest Republican front-runner in a generation.”

“That’s the fault and the changing nature of Republican politics,” said Schnur, who now directs the University of Southern California’s Unruh Institute of Politics. “Mitt Romney is not a worse candidate than [his] predecessors, but he’s dealing with a much more aggressive party base than they ever had to.”

There it is in a nutshell, even though the morons at Politico don't get it. The base of the party is really not happy with the choices we have. Any decent candidate will mop the floor with the man-child...the problem for Romney is he has a lot of baggage and Barry will exploit it, even if Perry, Cain or Bachman won't.

If the nominee is Romney I will not vote for him. I will vote against BO. But if there was a true conservative out there many like me would put our time, effort and money into wiping the floor with Barry. When you have to decide between a fool wanting to drive the country off the cliff in fifth gear and one wanting to do it in first, well, I'll hold my nose and pull the lever for Romney.

Mark Stein said it best a few weeks ago, "We don't need a compromise, we need a choice.". Can't say it better.
