Victim Shoots and Kills Robber
TEXAS CITY - Early Sunday morning, 60-year old Enrique Herrera of Texas City arrived home from work and was met in his driveway by two armed gunmen who ordered him to "give it up," and he did. But it wasn't his money he gave up. Herrera whipped out his own pistol and opened fire on the two robbers. One of them fired back hitting Herrera in his inner thigh.
Police responded to a call of 'shots being fired' in the 1100 block of 1st Avenue, South where they found Herrera. The two robbers had fled. Officers issued an all-points-bulletin and within minutes Officer D. Heckard stopped a black man walking down the street, sweating profusely, and matching the description of one of the bandits.
Officer Brad Macik, who was also at the scene, while searching the area with his flashlight, discovered something in the grass in an open nearby field.
That something was the other robber, still wearing a ski mask and laying face down, dead, in the field.
Captain Brian Goetschius identified the dead man as 26-year old Lekendrick Deon Nelson of La Marque. 23-year old Jermaine Eugene White, also of La Marque was jailed and charged with Aggravated Robbery and is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Both men have previous criminal histories and were known by Texas City officers.
Goetschius told The Police News an autopsy will be performed on Nelson to determine his exact cause of death.
I'll lay money that the cause of death has something to do with bleeding out because of a bullet in his body. Direct stupidity causing indirect cleansing of the human gene pool!
