I wonder if the ACLU (Afghani Civil Liberties Union) will react to this?

I got this from my STRATFOR reports yesterday.

Afghanistan: Electronic ID System Planned December 12, 2010

Afghanistan plans to introduce a $101.5 million electronic identification system and issue cards to all Afghans within five years, Reuters reported Dec. 12, citing a statement from the Afghan Ministry of Communication. The card would contain information on driver’s license, vehicle registration, the individual’s signature and voter registration and would enable fairer and more efficient future elections, according to Communication and Information Technology Minister Amirzai Sangeen, who announced the plan and signed a contract with Afghan company Grand Technology Resources on the project. He added that the project will be funded by the Ministry of Finance’s development budget.

OK, in a Third World nation that hasn't got a concept of democracy down yet they have to have an ID to vote...yet in Chicago and New York, where the dead rise on the first Tuesday of every other November having an ID to get a DVD or pick up a or prescription is no problem, but poll workers have to take the word of a complete stranger when he votes....in the immortal words of Vince Lombardi, what the hell is going on out there!
