U.K.: 5 Libyan Diplomats Expelled March 30, 2011

Five Libyan diplomats were expelled from the United Kingdom for their role in attempting to intimidate supporters of the Libyan opposition in Britain, British officials said March 30, AP reported. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said he ordered the officials, including the military attache, out of the country over concerns their presence could “pose a threat to security.”

Israel: Air Force Attacks Militants, Smuggling Tunnel March 30, 2011

The Israeli air force attacked a smuggling tunnel and militant camp in the south Gaza Strip in response to the firing of Kassam rockets into Israel on March 29, an Israeli Defense Force spokesman said March 30, Israel National News reported. A direct hit was cited in both attacks.

Egypt: Interim Constitution Issued March 30, 2011

Egyptian military rulers issued an interim constitution March 30 under which the transitional administration will run the country until elections return power to an elected government, Reuters reported. The decree confirmed that the military will hold presidential powers until a new head of state is elected. The interim constitution’s 62 articles include amended sections of the old constitution that were approved by referendum March 19.

U.S.: CIA In Libya Aiding Rebels - Officials March 30, 2011

Small groups of CIA operatives have been aiding rebels in Libya for the past several weeks, The New York Times reported March 30, citing unnamed U.S. officials. The CIA operatives include an undisclosed number who had been working at the CIA station in Tripoli as well as those that have recently arrived, the officials said. Dozens of British special forces and MI6 operatives are working inside Libya, the officials said, adding that the British operatives have been directing airstrikes from British Tornado jets and gathering intelligence about the whereabouts of Libyan government tanks, artillery pieces and missile installations.

Libya: Oil Shipments At A Standstill March 30, 2011

Libyan oil shipments are at a standstill after no one has attempted to hire tankers due to violence in the country and the impact of sanctions, Reuters reported March 30, citing unnamed Libyan shipping sources. One source said that there has been no crude oil, fuel oil or clean products shipped out of Libya for the last 10 to 12 days.
