Fantastic Drone Footage Of A Russian Tango-Class Attack Submarine

In this video, impressive and dramatic footage captured one of the marvels of Soviet engineering – a grounded attack submarine from 1980.

The footage was taken at the Tolyatti Avtovaz Technical Museum.

Weighing in at an impressive 2,000 tons and measuring 91 meter-long (299 ft), this diesel-electric Tango-class attack submarine was commissioned to patrol the Black Sea before being decommissioned and transferred to its final resting spot in the south-western Russian city.

Replacing the aging Foxtrot-class submarines, the Tango Class was the NATO reporting name of the class of diesel-electric submarines built by the Soviet Union and assigned to patrol and protect the Black Sea as part of the Northern Fleets.

Also known as the Som (Catfish) class, the Soviets designated this as Project 641B. The first units were completed in 1972 at Gorky.

A total of 18 submarines were built with two slightly different versions.

Containing Anti-Submarine Warfare missile equipment, the later was several meters longer than the first.
